Build your WiFi network the green way.
California based Meraki have announced a new Wifi booster especially designed for outdoor usage. This new solar powered model is meant to be used together with the existing Meraki mini asa network extender or as a node in Merakis mesh-network solution. The Wifi extender comes with a 99$ pricetag. Pricing for the solar panel has not been made public yet.
Speaking of mesh networks. All the Meraki products can be connected to one single self-managing network. It’s possible to have several nodes with WAN access to improve bandwidth throughput. The network is then managed via a web-based interface. Capabilities reach from bandwidth policies, anti-spam measures to monetizing and deep statistics.
This seems to be a appealing solution for a cheap and easily manageable network solution. Since all the devices are weatherproof and relatively autark (think solar-panel) you might start your neighbourhood network now. 🙂
